The Beginner's Guide to Running:

Make sure you have the right shoes !

running shoes are built for heel to toe movement and the higher heel drop in running shoes comes from added support and cushioning.

Types of running gaits

simplistically there are three types of running gaits.

  • neutral (foot lands upright )

  • over pronation (foot collapses medially or the inside)

  • supination ( foot rolls to outside

If you have no idea what arch type you have, you can perform a wet floor rest

Here is how to do it

Simply wet the sole of your foot, then step onto a blank piece of paper. step off and examine the shape of the footprint and compare it with the following diagram below . If your still not sure you can also go toa running shop and they should be able to do a gait analysis for you.
